Description

1822 Pattern Victorian Officer's Sword.
William Buckmaster, 3 New Burlington Street.
Good example but tired, made c. 1845.
Victotian 1822/45 (1845 Pattern Blade) Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword.
Folding guard tight and fully functional.
Fishskin grip and wiring all present and tight.
Backpiece has some play - 2mm.
Brass guard is tarnished as one would expect; could do with a clean.
Scabbard has a nice patina, no dents or dinks.
Etching to blade is very faded, dark patina down the length, very little pitting though.
Maker mark has faded to illegibility, though I am researching the proof mark, which appears to be a 'WB'. ( Could be: William Bond, London, William Brander, London, William Buckmaster, London or William Butler, Birmingham) I hope to find out soon!
Sword draws well, though is a bit loose in the scabbard, washer is present.
